Migori: Grief as man allegedly kills father over KSH 200k debt dispute

Migori – Shock and grief gripped Nyang’au village in Rongo County after a man allegedly hacked his father to death following an argument.

The tragic incident that happened on Monday, October 28, around 2:00 p.m., left the village in despair.

Witnesses say the suspect, Jeffrey Ariva, 37, barged into his father’s compound and asked to speak to him alone before carrying out the fatal attack.

“The father was looking after the animals on the farm before the son called him to chat,” said Maurice Otieno, an eyewitness.

Otieno said that shortly after they started talking, a heated argument broke out that quickly turned violent.

“They had an argument and before we knew it we heard screams and then found him attacking his father and ran away when we approached them,” Otieno added.

Why did Jeffrey attack his father

A relative of the deceased who was also present said that Geoffrey and his father had long-standing problems over a debt of KSH 200,000.

According to the relative, Geoffrey borrowed the money several years ago, transferring it to his sister, and he pressured his father to pay it back.

Rongo OCPD Shalim Fundi confirmed the incident saying the father identified as Agunga Ariva was found with serious injuries and rushed to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival at Rongo District Hospital.

“We received a report of a father assaulting his 37-year-old son, the suspect fled the scene, leaving his father, Agung Ariv, half-dead,” Fundi said.

The police chief described the victim’s wounds, noting deep cuts on the neck, chin, head and shoulder.

The body has since been transferred to the Rosewood Hospital mortuary for an autopsy as police began a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large.

The man killed the mother over the coals

In another case, Magdalena Wangechi, 68 years old, was hacked to death by her sonPatrick Irungu, 36, of Gaturo Village, Muranga County.

Family participants said Wangechi had prepared bananas but her son demanded to be served a plate of ugali.
