AI-Enabled Security and Empowerment at AIIMS, Delhi

In an effort to enhance the security of its premises, AIIMS, Delhi has initiated a pilot project to install artificial intelligence-based CCTV cameras. The move comes in response to a rape and murder incident at a Kolkata hospital that prompted a review of AIIMS’s security measures.

Principal Dr M Srinivas spoke to the media, explaining that AI-enabled cameras are strategically located at key entry and exit points, including the emergency and mother-child unit. Equipped with facial recognition technology, these cameras will help identify unauthorized persons entering the campus.

In addition to security measures, AIIMS plans to expand its facilities by adding a new 200-bed intensive care unit. The expansion aims to relieve pressure on the current emergency department, which often struggles to accommodate the 700-800 patients it sees each day.
