Jurors hear accused murderer’s voice in court

CHICAGOJury in Delphi for the first time double murder in the case, the voice of the man accused of the murders of 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby Herman in 2017 was heard.

The tapes played in the courtroom were video evidence of Richard Allen’s conversation with the police.

On October 13, 2022, Allen met with Indiana Lafayette State Police and was interviewed by the Delphi Police Chief and the Carroll County Sheriff.

He was asked to recant a story he told authorities in 2017 when questioned about being spotted on a trail the same day the girls were found murdered.

Parts of the interview showed him laughing and joking with investigators, talking about his age and where he worked.

He also told them that he had suffered a heart attack in the past and suffered from depression and high anxiety.

In an interview, he told authorities that he had been visiting his mother in Peru, Indiana that morning and the weather was nice, so he decided to go for a walk. Then he said he saw three girls near the trailhead.

Police arrested Allen five years after the murders.
