The family of 15-year-old Javon Sanders is searching for justice and answers after he was tragically shot on Christmas Day at a party at an apartment complex on Burdeen Street in southwest Houston.

Derrick Wilson, Sanders’ father, expressed deep sorrow and longing for his son.

“I love him and miss him. It breaks me. It just gets harder and harder,” Wilson said less than 24 hours after losing his son.

Sanders attended a Christmas party, leaving the house in a pair of pajamas with plans to enjoy gumbo.

“He told me he was going to leave because we had matching pajamas and everything, and he was supposed to go there and I was cooking,” Wilson recalls.

Witnesses said Sanders was in and out of the party there throughout the night. An ambulance was called when someone at the party became ill. Upon arrival, the Houston Fire Department found Sanders’ lifeless body in the parking lot.

“HFD arrived to attempt to render aid and they understood and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. It seems that there is one gunshot wound to the head,” the authorities said.

Houston police said there are no witnesses and no suspects at this time. The grieving family is asking anyone with information to come forward.

“That’s what I’m asking because I have to go home and not watch my son walk through the door or sit in a chair that we usually sit side by side,” Wilson pleaded.

Sanders is remembered as a family-oriented and hard-working teenager who always put God first.

The family continues to seek closure and justice for Javon Sanders, hoping someone will come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the person responsible for his death.
