The FIR was registered on Wednesday evening after an investigation confirmed that 18 seized vehicles went missing during the shifting of the old Hazratganj police station from its previous location in a multi-level parking lot to its present location on Valmiki Marg nearly 15 years ago.

A case was registered based on the DCP’s investigation report following a complaint filed by a head constable. The development comes six years after an inventory in 2018 found 18 cars in a damaged condition and another 18 could not be traced.

The 2018 inventory review was conducted nine years after the Hazratganj police station was shifted from a multi-level parking lot to Valmiki Marg in 2009. Then 36 registered and unclaimed four-wheelers were sent to Kachanpur Matiyari village police station in Chinhat. by the then inspector of Hazratganj, the complaint said.

After discovering that the vehicles were missing, Central DCP, Raveena Tyagi recently conducted an investigation, resulting in the registration of an FIR.

The rest of the impounded vehicles at Matiyari Malkhana (warehouse) Kanchanpur Chinhat were found in poor condition, with number plates and chassis numbers obliterated. The vehicles were stacked haphazardly, some buried in sewers, making identification impossible.

The investigation found negligence in the maintenance of vehicles, with both Hazratganj security personnel and Chinhat police station chiefs failing to maintain proper surveillance over the years, leading to the disappearance of 18 vehicles.
