A Maple Hill man has been charged with murder after several people were found shot to death

BURGHAW, N.C. (WAY) — The Pender County Sheriff’s Office says one man is in custody on suspicion of a shooting that left one person dead and others injured.

On Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 12:29 a.m., the Pender County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in the 1100 block of Maple Hill School Road in the Maple Hill neighborhood.

When deputies arrived, they found three people shot to death.

Two victims were taken to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center and one person was taken to Novant Health Pender Medical Center.

One of the victims died from his injuries.

Jesse Conroy Watkins, 67, of 1122 Maple Hill School Road, was arrested and charged with one count of murder, two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Causing Serious Bodily Injury, two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon weapons”. ”, as well as “Storage of firearms by a convicted felon”.
