The main Pixel 9a leak shows a bigger display and battery for the same price

Surprising everyone with the August launch for Pixel 9 seriesperhaps the tech giant is gearing up for an early launch for Pixel 9a as well, as evidenced by the numerous leaks about the phone that we’ve already begun to see.

The latter comes from Android Headlineswhich released a treasure trove of details about the phone’s specs and potential price.

According to the report, the Pixel 9a could switch to a larger 6.3-inch Actua display with an adaptive refresh rate of 60-120Hz. That would put it on par with the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro in terms of screen size.

Along with this larger display, the device is expected to increase in physical size to 154.7 x 73.3 x 8.9mm, making it slightly taller, wider and thicker than the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro.

Despite these larger dimensions, it can only weigh 186 grams, which is actually slightly lighter than the Pixel 8a (188 grams) and noticeably lighter than the flagship Pixels, which weigh around 200 grams. This means the phone could once again have a polycarbonate back instead of glass.

In terms of performance, the Pixel 9a is expected to be powered by the Tensor G4 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. AND previous leak from Android Headlines also suggests that the phone could have a 5,000mAh battery, which is almost identical to the battery capacity of the larger Pixel 9 Pro XL. Unfortunately, it looks like charging speeds may remain the same: 18W for wired and 7.5W for wireless charging.

In terms of aesthetics, the Pixel 9a will likely follow in the footsteps of the Pixel 9, embracing a sleek and flat design. One big change, however, could be the abandonment of the iconic Pixel camera visor. Instead, current rumors suggest a dual camera setup that sits flush with the back of the phone.

Speaking of cameras, the Pixel 9a is expected to feature an upgraded 48-megapixel primary camera, accompanied by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, while the selfie camera is expected to remain at 13-megapixels.

Perhaps one of the most eye-catching details of this leak is the price. The report insists that Google plans to keep the Pixel 9a at a starting price of $499, just like the Pixel 8a. With the Pixel 9 starting at $799, the Pixel 9a looks poised to offer solid value for those looking to go with a powerful Pixel without the flagship price tag.

Based on current information, we expect the Pixel 9a to launch around March 2025 instead of the usual May window. Rumor has it that it will be released alongside Apple’s iPhone SE 4setting the stage for an exciting battle.
