Suspect in bar shooting is in custody, man surrenders to Abilene police

The man allegedly involved in the murder of Hayden Smith has turned himself in to police.

Anthony Devon Evans, 32, was taken into police custody and booked into the Taylor County Jail on Monday.

Evans has been charged with felony murder and was being held on $500,000 bond Tuesday, according to online jail records.

The crime followed an altercation inside and outside Spanky P’s Bar in the 2400 block of South Seventh Street early Sunday morning.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they found a man, later identified as Smith, 30, suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. He was taken to Hendrick Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
