Spontaneous ignition of paint products led to a fire at a house in Brookside

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The spontaneous combustion of wood stain products caused an early morning house fire in Brookside.

Kansas City, Missouri, fire departments were called around 4 a.m. Tuesday to 60th and McGee.

Upon arrival, firefighters noticed heavy fire coming from a two-story building.

No casualties have been reported.

The building was undergoing reconstruction, and the residents planned to move in in mid-November.

Firefighters believe that the fire started on the first floor, burning through the floor down into the basement, as well as through the walls to the second floor and the attic.

The fire was declared accidental.

KCFD said this was due to improper handling, storage and disposal of wood stain products, applications and waste.

The products self-ignited, which led to a further fire.
