Fort Myers police impounds SUV suspected in hit-and-run homicide


Fort Myers police seek dash cam footage from motorists who may have been in the Colonial Boulevard area, near Ortiz Avenue, around 6:50 pm Sunday.

Around 24 hours after a victim was fatally shot during a hit-and-run in Fort Myers, authorities announced they impounded the suspected SUV in Lehigh Acres.

One person died following a hit-and-run that involved a shooting along Colonial Boulevard, near Ortiz Avenue, Fort Myers police announced just before 7 pm Sunday.

On Monday morning, police released a photo of the suspected SUVa 2004 Saturn SUV bearing Florida tag “CE50MX.”

Police said in a news release posted to their Facebook page that the SUV is a matte or flat black with distinct stickers on the rear driver and passenger sides. The vehicle has distinct wheels, a trailer hitch with a ball and damage to the rear bumper area.

Officer Kristin Capuzzi, spokesperson for Fort Myers police, confirmed it is the seventh homicide in the city this year.

Police say the investigation remains “very active” while they seek witness information or potential personal dash cam footage from the area of ​​westbound Colonial Boulevard and Ortiz Avenue before, during or after the incident, which happened around 6:50 pm Sunday.
