Woman BJP worker files counter complaint alleging molestation of Congressmen during protest at party office

Mumbai: Following an FIR filed by the Congress party against BJP workers for allegedly vandalizing the Congress office in Mumbai’s Azad Maidan area on Thursday, December 19, the BJP filed a counter-complaint. The BJP has accused 10-15 Congress workers of corruption and ill-treatment by filing a complaint at the Azad Maidan police station. A case was registered based on a complaint by a woman member of the youth wing of the BJP and an investigation has been initiated.

According to the Azad Maidan police, the complaint was lodged by a woman BJP worker. In her statement, she claimed that on December 19 at around 4:35 p.m., she went to protest at the Congress office on the instructions of her party leader. After participating in the protest, as she was coming out, 8-10 Congress workers who were in a building adjacent to the Congress office started abusing her and threatening to tear her clothes.

She also alleged that Congress workers grabbed her from behind and tried to molest her. Somehow she managed to escape and went to the footpath near Kama Hospital. However, Congress workers allegedly followed her there, physically assaulting and abusing her. She said the police eventually dispersed the Congress workers. She later witnessed 10-15 Congress workers assaulting BJP Youth Wing President Tejinder Thiwana.

Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 74, 79 and 115 of the Bharatiya Nai Sanghita (BNS) Act and started further investigation. Earlier on December 19, the Congress filed an FIR against the BJP workers, accusing them of vandalizing the Congress office in Mumbai and making other allegations. Police are investigating both cases.

This escalation of the clash between BJP and Congress workers has sparked a political row, with both sides accusing each other of violence and misconduct.
