Two pedestrians hit: Man dead, teenager in critical condition in separate crashes on Long Island

Two pedestrians were struck, one fatally, in separate crashes on Long Island Monday night.

In Inwood, a male pedestrian was struck by a southbound 2004 Ford Explorer on Sheridan Boulevard near Nassau Avenue shortly after 11 p.m., Nassau police said.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the police said. His name is being withheld pending notification of the man’s family.

The driver of the Ford stayed put. The investigation is ongoing, the police said.

Hours earlier, at approximately 9:10 p.m. in North Amityville, a 17-year-old boy was walking on New Highway at the intersection of Pine Road when he was struck by a 2007 Toyota Prius traveling southbound.

A North Amityville teenager was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital for serious injuries, Suffolk police said.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured and remained at the scene.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the first division at 631-854-8152.
