A new miniature golf course will open at the Shops at Rivercenter

SAN ANTONIOHoley Moley Mini Golf Club at the end of the year, the “par-tee” will begin on the San Antonio waterfront.

According to a press release, the restaurant will open in early December and will be located in the Shops at Rivercenter on E Commerce Street, formerly LandShark Bar & Grill.

The golf course will feature 27 holes of miniature golf on three courses and two 80s and 90s themed karaoke rooms.

“San Antonio has such a vibrant and unique local culture that has grown into an incredibly powerful city. We are very excited to participate in the Rivercenter expansion and transport our guests to a world of nostalgia and excitement,” said Funlab Global CEO Michael Schreiber.

This will be the fifth facility that the Australian company has opened in the US after Denver, San Francisco, Houston and Austin.

You can now book reservation for all kinds of events, from bachelorette parties to holiday parties. They also have a full restaurant and bar with a Texas twist (including cowboy boot shots).

It is the second miniature golf course to open this year, following the Tiger Woods-designed Popstroke course.

Here are some fun facts about mini golf:

  • The oldest miniature golf course was established in Scotland in 1867, the Ladies’ Putting Club of St. Andrews and was a way for women to play golf as they were not allowed to at the time.

  • The first miniature golf course in America was opened in 1916 in Pinehurst, California. ‘Thistle Dhu’ is known to be a play on words for ‘this’ll do’ as it was not a full-length course.

  • Mini golf is a professional competition with over 40,000 players under the authority of the World Mini Golf Federation.

  • Since full courses were not available until 1961, players competed on the roofs of high-rise buildings.

  • Before mini golf themes, they used old junk parts like tires and gutters to add challenges to the game.

  • Glow-in-the-dark miniature golf actually had a function: countries like Finland created it to be played during the early sunset.
