NEW BEDFORD — Heading into the final stretch, the five candidates for Bristol’s 8th state House of Representatives revealed what they’ve raised, spent and have left over to win the election.

Candidate financial data in Massachusetts is collected and published by the state Office of Campaign Finance and Political Financing.

The candidates Seeking to replace retiring Democrat Paul A. Schmid III are Democrat Steven J. Ouellette, 60, Westport; Republican Christopher Thrasher, 39, Westport; and independents Laura A. Hadley, 39, Westport; Manuel Soares Jr., 62, Westport; Jesse W. St. Gelais, 41, Acushnet.

The candidates seeking to replace Democratic incumbent Paul A. Schmid III are Democrats Steven J. Ouellette, Westport; Republican Christopher Thrasher, Westport; and independents Laura A. Hadley, Westport; Manuel Soares Jr., Westport; Jesse W. St. Gelais, Acushnet.

Bristol’s 8th includes precincts 2 and 3 in Acushnet; District 1, Precinct A and District 6, Precincts A and B in Fall River; Precincts 2 and 3 in Freetown; District 1, Precincts B1 and C in New Bedford and all of Westport.

According to A 2018 OCPF ResearchIn 2018, out of 80 House races, the candidate who spent the most money won 65 times, with an 81 percent success rate. There were 62 home races in 2016, and the candidate who spent the most money won 53 times, with an 85 percent success rate.

Candidates who file with the OCPF include those running for statewide, legislative, mayoral, county, county and gubernatorial council elections, as well as city council in cities with a population of 65,000 or more, including New Bedford and Fall -River, and state party committees.
