2 rescued from raging river in Yao Valley during Maui flash flooding

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui fire crews rescued two people in a raging river in the Yao Valley on Sunday amid torrential rains and flooding over the weekend.

Just before 2 p.m., the Maui Fire Department responded to a report of a man swept away by rapidly rising water.

Shortly after, a second person, a girl, was also reported trapped elsewhere after being swept away, MFD said.

Fire crews managed to get the man up and firefighters waded through the water to get the girl back to safety.

No casualties have been reported.

Rescue has come during flash flooding across the stateincluding on Maui. Some areas received nearly 5 inches of rain in just a few hours Saturday morning.
