Ralph Fiennes offers an exciting update on the sequel 28 years later, and I’m sold

28 days later was a unique take on the zombie concept that was praised by fans and critics alike over 20 years ago. In 2007, the film received one sequel, 28 weeks laterand fans later hoped for a triquel. Well, now they will not only get a the third film of 28 years laterwhich is located on Schedule of films for 2025but they can also look forward to a few new movies. Cast member Ralph Fiennes just shared some details on what to expect and he’s got me excited for what’s to come.

It was it is known that 28 years later will act as a kind of direct continuation 28 days laterwith Cillian Murphy is set to reprise his role from the original film. However, until now, the exact plot of the new film or films (there are three planned) has been unclear. During the conversation with IndieWireRalph Fiennes revealed that he will play the doctor in the new films and explained how his character fits into the overall story. Fiennes said…

These are three films, two of which have been shot. For 28 years Britain has been experiencing this terrible plague of infected people who are violent, rabid people with few pockets of uninfected communities. In the center is a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English countryside. But, of course, the infected are hiding around them in the woods, hills, and forests. But he finds a doctor who we might think of as weird and strange, but is actually a force for good.

Each of the previous two films dealt with different people just trying to survive in the new world they were exposed to. It is interesting that the new film will focus on a character who has obviously never known another world. It’s actually a very intriguing concept that we don’t see often and will likely be installed 28 years later except for zombie movies. Writer Alex Garland said that the main element will be time in recent films, which makes it even more interesting.

As the name suggests, 28 years later will take place decades after the initial infestation, and it appears that the dangerous creatures (who used to be humans) still pose a serious threat to anyone trying to navigate the world. While the new film will feature both franchise veterans and new faces, from what we can tell, the latter group of characters will indeed take center stage.

Ralph Fiennes also said that the producers are wasting no time in creating a trilogy of new films. It was known that in The shooting of the first film has already been completed but probably the second film has too. This is great news, and hopefully these future films will live up to the high standards set by the original film.
