A fourth-grade teacher at Citrus Grove Elementary School has been named Martin County Teacher of the Year

MARTIN COUNTY — Fourth-grade teacher Vanessa Molina-Counil was named Citrus Grove Teacher of the Year on Friday.

Molina-Council has been a teacher in the district since 2013. She was recognized for providing “highly engaging, standards-aligned lessons” designed to accommodate students’ diverse learning styles, according to a district statement. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Indian River State College and an endorsement in English to Speakers of Other Languages ​​and Reading.

She started the Spanish Club and Cheerleading Club at Citrus Grove. In addition, she is the vice president of the Martin County High School Tiger Regiment and a volunteer for the Hidden Oaks High School Color Guard.

The county’s Teacher of the Year was announced during the Martin County Education Foundation’s annual Teacher of the Year Awards at the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center in Port St. Lucie.

Molina-Council will now be considered for the state Teacher of the Year. The finalists for the state award are announced in May. A state committee of parents, teachers and educators reviews each district winner’s application.

Molina-Rada was also named the district’s elementary teacher of the year. Jensen Beach Middle School teacher Samantha Pankhurst was named Teacher of the Year. Pankhurst teaches human geography and US history. Hidden Oaks Middle School teacher Alicia Carter was named the Middle School Teacher of the Year. Carter teaches creative writing, digital media, and physical education.
