A 93-year-old man was arrested on charges of trying to kill his wife of 60 years

OCALA, FL (WCJB/Gray News) – According to authorities, a 93-year-old man in Florida allegedly tried to kill his wife of 60 years.

Deputies responded to the home of Helmut Lockner for a report of a domestic battery incident on Saturday.

Lockner’s wife of 60 years told deputies they were sitting in the living room watching TV when the 93-year-old complained of pain and said he wanted to die.

He allegedly walked behind his wife and put a rope around her neck, This is reported by WCJB.

She was able to slip her hand between the rope and her neck to free herself.

Freeing herself, she ran to the patio to call 911. The dispatcher allegedly heard Lockner say, “You can die with me.”

The woman told investigators that Lockner tried to kill her two weeks ago by putting a pillow over her head.

However, she was able to get him to stop and she thought he wouldn’t try to hurt her again.

Lockner later told deputies he was dying and didn’t want to leave his wife alone.

He also told authorities he planned to kill his wife with a rope and then hang himself.

Lockner was booked into the Marion County Jail on two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

At the moment, the obligation has not been established.
