Many of these new followers left messages of support for the suspect. Authorities are also taking action, searching Mangione’s residence and seizing electronic devices in an effort to gather evidence and find any possible motive.

Luigi Mangione’s social networks are attracting attention

After a McDonald’sAn employee called 911 to report a suspicious person dining, Luigi Mangione was arrested and taken into custody for further investigation. Now his social networks are exploding.

This morning, Mangione, who is currently being questioned by authorities after being picked up in Altoona, pennsylvaniahad only 975 followers on Instagram. However, according to TMZ, that number has grown into the tens of thousands, with many users expressing interest in the 26-year-old, who was identified as a former Ivy League student.

Even more troubling is the nature of the newfound attention. Although Mangione’s profile has been inactive since 2021, his current followers, who number more than 27,000, show a disturbing attraction to him. Shockingly, some have openly stated that they would be romantically involved with him.

Comments on Luigi Mangione’s social media posts included messages of thanks, with one fan thanking him for “sacrificing himself for the good of society”. Many others called for his release and offered to start a GoFundMe campaign for his legal defense fund, the paper reported.

X Luigi Mangione’s account has been suspended

The purported X Mangione account (formerly Twitter) also saw a surge in followers as his recent tweets gained a lot of traction, skyrocketing from less than a thousand to over 80,000 and counting. However, during a scheduled arraignment at a Pennsylvania courthouse Monday night, Mangione X’s account was suspended. A techie claiming to be a basic engineer allegedly wrote posts that included discussions of solutions to Japan’s depopulation and other social commentary, all of which stopped being visible after 6 p.m. ET.

YouTube has removed a video related to the suspect in Thompson’s murder

The YouTube video was reportedly uploaded from an account linked to Luigi Mangione, a “person of interest” in the death of the UnitedHealthcare CEO. The video’s caption referred to Mangione’s arrest. YouTube subsequently took action, suspending the impersonation account and shutting down three other related channels.

“The channel’s metadata has been updated following the widely reported arrest of Luigi Mangione, including an update to the channel name and description,” a YouTube spokesperson told Newsweek. The video-sharing platform has since suspended the account for “violating our impersonation policy, which prohibits impersonating content on YouTube.”
