Police found a body near a New Jersey creek while searching for a retired teacher

Authorities investigating the disappearance of an 84-year-old retired teacher say they have found the body near a bridge in rural Atlantic County, New Jersey.

A man found dead in Galloway Township matched the description of Alan Levin, a former Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District teacher who was reported missing by relatives Saturday night, city police said Monday.

Police said the body had not yet been identified as of Monday morning. Police said he was found on the banks of Nacot Creek, a waterway that leads to the Mallika River.

Levin’s car was found Sunday near a bridge that carries traffic from downtown Galloway to Port Republic over Atlantic County Road 610, authorities said. Levine was a resident of Smithville in Galloway Township.

Atlantic City Police and Fire Department assisted in the investigation and located the dead man in the water using drones, police said.

Levin’s son shared his father’s disappearance in social networks wrote a post describing it over the weekend. Levin’s family searched for him in several places he was known to frequent, the post said.

Levin’s son said on social media Monday that his family had received the “worst possible news” and would soon share information about the funeral.
