ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A former Woodstock police officer has pleaded guilty to killing a 20-year-old man in October 2023, according to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office.

Grant Matthew Shaw took a no-deal plea deal to serve 10 years for manslaughter. The judge suspended the sentence and ordered Shaw to perform 500 hours of community service, according to the district attorney’s office.

In April, Shaw was charged and granted bail for the murder of Emmanuel Millard.

Around 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2023, officers attempted to pull over Millard’s Hyundai near Highway 92 and Hames Road in Woodstock for a series of traffic violations, according to the Woodstock Police Department.

Millard then led officers on a chase into Cobb County, police said.

According to Woodstock police, officers used a precision immobilization technique (PIT) to stop Millard’s vehicle, which crashed near Highway 92 and Old Mountain Park Road in Cobb County.

The officer, later identified as Shaw, shot Millard once as officers tried to arrest him, Woodstock police said.

Miller was taken to hospital in critical condition and died two days later.
