Congress announces candidates for Maharashtra, Jharkhand assembly elections. Check the details

The Congress on Monday released a consolidated list of six candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The party has announced four candidates for the Maharashtra elections and two more have been nominated for the Jharkhand elections.

In Maharashtra, the Congress has fielded Geera Devasi against Assembly Speaker and BJP candidate Rahul Narvekar from the Kolab seat. Other names on the list include Sajid Khan Mannan Khan from Akola West, Chetan Narote from Solapur Central and Madhurimaraje Maloiraje Chhatrapati from Kolhapur North. Chhatrapati was named in place of Rajesga Bharat Latkar.

On Sunday, October 27, the Congress released its fourth list of 14 candidates. With today’s announcement, the party has announced a total of 102 candidates.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in one phase on November 20, with counting of votes on November 23.

In Jharkhand, the Congress nominated Swetha Singh from Bokaro and Ajay Dubey from Dhanbad. Earlier today, Jharkhand Congress incumbent Manas Sinha quit the party and joined the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party after he failed to get a ticket from Bhavnathpur seat of Garhwa district. The seat was given to the JMM as part of the seat-sharing deal with the Congress.

He was inducted into the party by BJP sitting president Ravindra Ray in the presence of the party’s state co-president and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Jharkhand Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 13 and 20. The results will be declared along with Maharashtra on November 23. The ruling alliance led by Hemant Soren Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 47 seats and formed the government in 2019.
