Police charged a seventh youth in connection with two violent attacks in Mount Pearl last week, while other charges were also filed against four of the group following a separate attack in the community on November 8.

The young man has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, as well as one count each of armed robbery and uttering threats, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said Friday night. The charges stem from two attacks on separate parts of Roosevelt Avenue that are said to have happened a week ago.

In addition, the young man is also charged with assault with a weapon and criminal damage to property — along with three others in connection with Friday’s attacks — after the Nov. 8 attack at a restaurant on Commonwealth Avenue.

Const. James Cadigan told CBC News the attack happened on November 8 between St. David Avenue and Edinburgh Drive. According to him, the man was attacked and received minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

Cadigan said the victim was not known to the attackers, adding that the youths had been outside the restaurant for some time and had indeed been chatting before the attack.

More allegations of violent attacks at Mt Pearl as mayor seeks answers

Mount Pearl Mayor Dave Acker says he wants the public to be open about their reactions to the violent attacks as police face new charges in the expanding case. This is reported by Terry Roberts.

The teenager charged in the Nov. 8 attack was between the ages of 13 and 15 and was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Friday.

“What I can tell you is that the three young men charged in this case, from the November 8 incident, are also charged in the case that happened in Mount Pearl last Friday,” Cadigan told the CBC News before announcing the fourth arrest. .

“The information we receive from the community leads us in the right direction and allows us to reach legitimate conclusions about these investigations.”

Mount Pearl Mayor Dave Acker praised the RNC for their work, speaking to CBC News on Friday.

“I think it takes some of the kids off our streets that are causing all the problems,” he said. “Moving forward, we want to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.”

Acker said an event will be held Tuesday at City Hall where residents can discuss safety and potential solutions to recent youth violence in the city.

Part of that decision includes the role of the justice system, he said, and how it deals with those responsible.
