Raleigh, NC (wtvd) – The American citizen living in Thailand is threatening 10 years in prison after he has pleaded guilty in a threat to kill North Carolina Senator Tom Tillis and his staff.

According to the US Department of Justice (Doj), Eric Charles Wellton, 53, made multifaceted harassment and intimidating calls to the offices of the selected Republicans and GOP organizations in the United States

Welton claims that he made threatening calls because he was angry with a large number of unwanted political emails he received. IN September 2021Wellton talked to an employee in Tomlis Reli’s office And threatened to appear and “put a ball through each (their) head.”

Doj says he also threatened to come to North Carolina and “mow … down” “whole (explicative) state” and find a person who sent him email and cut off his hands.

Welton pleaded guilty to one count of a federal official because of his duties, which bears a maximum 10-year-old prison sentence.

“The threat of killing a state official and his employees not only despises, but also commitment to our democratic management system,” said the acting US prosecutor Daniel P. Bubar for the Eastern District of North Carolina. “Our office will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners for investigation and prosecution for the threats or intimidation of government officials so that they can properly perform their important responsibilities.”

Welton is planned to be condemned in July.

“It is unacceptable to do violent threats to anyone. But when the threats are aimed at elected officials, it can affect their ability to effectively serve their voters and their country,” said Special Agent Robert M. Deitt from the FBI Charlotte field office. “FBI does not tolerate this type of intimidation for any reason, especially when it comes to those who help manage our democracy.”
