The American living in Thailand pleases guilty in the threat of killing Senator Tom Tillis :: Wal.com

American citizen who lives in Thailand on Wednesday threatening to kill Senator Tom Tillis, R-NC and his staff.

According to the United States Ministry of Justice, 53 -year -old Eric Charles Welton pleaded guilty of one calculating the threat of a federal official because of his duties. Welton threatens a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Welton was also accused of sending threatening messages to the then Senator Richard Berry, R-NC. In court, the lawyers of the Ministry of Justice stated that Wellton had made multifaceted and intimidating phone calls to the offices of elected Republicans and GOP organizations in the United States.

According to the Ministry of Justice, Velton claimed that he called because he was angry for the many unwanted emails he received.

In September 2021, Velton spoke with the employee of the Tomlis Rely Office, threatening to appear and “hold a ball through each (their) heads.” Welton also threatened to come to North Carolina and “mow” a “whole (explicit) state” and cut off the hands of the person who sent him e -mail.

“The threat of killing a state official and his personnel is not only neglect, but also commitment to our democratic government system,” the US lawyer Daniel P. Bubbar said today. “Our office will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners for investigation and prosecution for threats or intimidation to government officials so that they can properly perform their important responsibilities.”

FBI agents in Charlotte and Atlanta arrested Welton in May 2023 at the Atlanta International Airport Hartsfield Jackson.

The initial criminal complaint against Welton also claimed that in October and November 2022, Welton began threatening US Marine and others working at the US Consulate in Thailand. In one voice mail, Velton allegedly stated that he was “going to kill a bunch of Marines” because of anger because of immigration.
