Pennsylvania State Trooper charged with felony after AI-generated pornography found on his work computer

A Pennsylvania State Police corporal has been suspended after authorities say they found thousands of AI-generated pornographic images on his work computer.

38-year-old Steven M. Kamnick, of Havertown, who was stationed at Troop K in Schwenksville, surrendered to authorities Wednesday and was released on $1,000 unsecured bail, Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry said in a statement. Kamnick, who has been a state trooper since 2011, was charged with unauthorized use of a computer and related crimes.

According to Henry, authorities seized Kamnik’s work computer and found thousands of pornographic files on the hard drive. Some of the files, she said, were deepfakes, artificial images or videos created from photos or videos of a real person.

Kamnik, who has been suspended without pay, could not be reached for comment. None of his lawyers were in the court records.
