A plea of no contest is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing purposes. It may also offer some protection from liability in civil cases.

The stabbing occurred after Washington broke into his estranged wife’s Timber Ridge Apartments home on Sept. 29, 2023, and stabbed another man, then a 32-year-old Warren resident.

Police Chief Jeff King said children were present during the attack.

Officers at the scene reported seeing Washington push the victim’s chest in an attempt to make him bleed from his injuries, King said.

King credited the responding officers for saving lives at the scene. The victim received multiple stab wounds.

At the time of the incident, Washington was charged with domestic violence for assaulting his wife, but was released on personal recognizance. He was arrested at the scene of the shooting and has since been held in the Oakland County Jail on bail.
